New hand drawings

October 18, 2012 § Leave a comment

I have creating drawings for a print exhibition in Italy that starts in January http://www.rosiewinn.com/page3.htm. My drawings are being made into giclee prints – this will be the time my work is being shown in this way – I’m very interested to see how my work will looks as prints and also how well it is received by the exhibitions attendees. In some ways, I can create a new audience for my work. It is a new avenue for me, and if successful, one that I will explore further.

Lately I have been very inspired by hand movements in Buddhism and dance, and find some of the positions very elegant and interesting to draw. I have created the following drawings with a wood-burning pen so the lines are all seared onto the paper. As these  are getting scanned and printed as giclees, I have been using textured handmade paper  – drawing onto plain white paper can be almost too simplistic, so I’m hoping that the scanner picks up on the paper’s detailing.

All drawings measure 28 x 28 cm

Burning onto wood

October 14, 2012 § Leave a comment

I am still working in the pub painting murals and I’ve also started doing some pyrography too with the pub’s logo onto wood. I am so pleased with how it has turned out and am now thinking of other types of designs I can use to burn onto wood. I haven’t tried burning a solid area as my drawings are always linear so this was a challenge. The piece measures roughly 40 x 40 cm.

New project – Mural Artist!

September 18, 2012 § Leave a comment

I haven’t been blogging for a few weeks now as I’ve started working on a really exciting project that means I am away from my computer for most of the time. I’ve had a fantastic time and luckily, it isn’t over yet! I recently went to help out with renovating a pub in Norwich – The Marquee pub at the top of Rose Lane – which also happens to be my favourite pub in Norwich. I went along for an afternoon to strip paint and tidy up as the pub was in a really bad state and needed lots of building and renovation work done to it by the new owners. I got talking to one of the owners Jamie, about my tattoos and explained I was an artist. He went away+came back asking what I thought about doing some artwork in the pub. This turned into several conversations and I started to come up with ideas for themes and looks in the various rooms in the pub. Since then, I’ve been working solidly on it and am hoping this will create new commissions for mural work. I don’t however think of myself as a painter, as I’ve always found drawing more enjoyable, but painting on such a large scale has really helped to develop my creative eye, especially when working to a brief for a new client on a totally new ideas and ways of working.

I’ve attached some photos taken from my camera, but will be getting professional photos taken, once the work is all complete! The photos here are very blurry and bad quality, so apologies!

New logo painted on the bar

A whole wall in hallway to toilets has been covered in music scores –
different genres from rock, jazz, classical etc, even film OST

Great Red Dwarf quote painted on wall in Games Room

Quotes painted on wall in Games Room

Tournament board in Game Room, painted with blackboard paint. The idea for this was instead of a typical rectangular board, to have a  nod to medieval tournaments with the shape of a shield, and instead of ‘HOME’ and ‘AWAY’, I have painted ‘THEM’ and ‘US’.

Large abstract pencil and watercolour painting of Norwich Castle

Lifesize figures, painted as silhouettes using spray paint and emulsion on wall by the bar.

So that’s the painting work from the last few weeks, plenty more to go! More sign writing and I still have the men and womens toilets to do. These will be designed very differently but will still be fantastic, people will want to stop by the pub, just to see how the toilets look! There is also two very large designs that will be printed on vinyl and attached to two walls in the pub, but these will be done last.

Please do pop along to the Marquee when it is open – aiming for mid October, but check the website as the official open date will be on there – http://www.marqueenorwich.co.uk

After this project, I will be getting some drawings made into giclee prints, to be sent abroad for a new year-long touring exhibition around Italy, starting in January. The art fun never stops!!

New art, coffee, pub murals and exhibiting abroad!

August 16, 2012 § Leave a comment

It’s been a very busy few weeks with travelling to different exhibitions, doing commissions, preparing new work for shows and an exciting new project – I haven’t had much time to sit down and blog!

New exhibitions

I have work showing at The Found Gallery in East Lothian, for their Summer Exhibition, 13th August – 31st October http://www.thefoundgallery.co.uk

The next exhibition will be at Storm Fine Arts in Burnham Market – ‘Hinterland – Late Summer Exhibition’, 17th August – 16th October – http://www.stormfinearts.com. For this exhibition, I have been making drawings on paper and also burning images onto oak:

Exhibiting abroad!

I am looking into getting giclee prints of my drawings made. I was recently asked to submit work for a print exhibition in Italy, which starts in Bologna in January and then tours around Italy for the whole year. This is my first international exhibition and also a new avenue for my work – I haven’t created prints yet, so am very interested to see how my work will look and also how well they sell http://www.comune.bologna.it/quartieresantostefano/

Norwich Art Fair

There has been so much great support for the fair and I will update you all when I have more news next week. There is now a Twitter profile to follow – http://twitter.com/norwichartfair, a Facebook group to ‘like’ – http://www.facebook.com/NorwichArtFair and a Linkedin group – http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=4556608. We have registered a  domain name for our website and will have it up and running soon. Keep spreading the word – the more support and interest we get for the fair, the better it will be! If you want to let us know of any art-related events going on in Norfolk & Suffolk, we’ll happily promote these on the different network sites.

Mustard Coffee Bar competition

As I mentioned in my previous blog, one of my drawings won an online competition – the prize was to be the featured artist on their fantastic website – http://www.mustardcoffeebar.com/art and to have my drawing printed on coffee packaging that the cafe sells. It’s a really cool prize and I am very happy about it – another way to get my art “out there”! Thank you again to everyone who voted for me!

I’m a mural artist!

The Marquee pub on Cattle Market Street in Norwich is soon to be reopened by new landlords. They are aiming for the August Bank Holiday weekend. It is being completely refurnished as a new music venue, with a bar and coffee lounge downstairs and a restaurant and function rooms upstairs. One of the new landlords asked if I’d like to have my own artwork on the walls, and this discussion developed into me being ‘Art Director’! I’ve been working very hard on turning the space into something really beautiful and exciting. I have enlisted the help of some lovely artist friends as there is so much to do. There will be graffiti, an area of boudoir-style burlesque designs, beautiful simplistic flower designs, painted murals of silhouetted figures, quotations on the walls, and of course, my own figurative artwork. One of the designs will be printed onto a huge vinyl that will cover an entire wall. It’s very exciting and definitely the biggest project I have worked on. It is very new to me, but I’m looking forward to see what everyone thinks of it! There will be an artist gallery on the new website (due to be up and running by the end of August) – http://www.marqueenorwich.co.uk/

The pub is still being renovated, but I will post up photos of work in progress when I start painting in the pub, hopefully next week.

Below are some very rough sketches that I have been working on – I’ve used chalk pastels to get some of the blurring correct – the lighting isn’t too good though in the photographs. The two figures will be life size and painted as the same colour as the pub walls (pale blue) and the silhouette will be painted in various shades of orange.

New curated exhibition

I am working on a new group exhibition of all female artists, hopefully the end of this year, if not the start of next year. The venue hasn’t been decided yet, but I will update you all with the artists involved and other details.

Enough of my ramblings!
