I have been working on new work for the upcoming Open Studios, as part of the 2012 Norfolk & Norwich Festival My studio will be open to the public on Sat 26th & Sun 27th May, Sat 2nd & Sun 3rd June, Sat 9th & Sun 10th June – come along, say hi and see my work – Studio 4, Muspole Workshops, just off Duke St.  I’ll have a big selection of work on show, from my usual pyrography figurative drawings, cards, pencil and ink drawings and pyrography drawings on wood. I can’t wait to see my studio bursting with artwork! I’ve just finished off two drawings, they are now ready to be framed.  Unfortunately the drawings don’t photograph very well, so I’ve included close up photographs of each. The wood-burning pen can sometimes make the paper go shiny in some of the lines. In parts of the line, it can be almost black and then fades into an almost pearlescent effect.

    these are great palimpsests!

  • Good day! Do you use Twitter? I’d like to follow you if that would be okay. I’m undoubtedly enjoying Two new drawings for Open Studios rosiewinnart and look forward to new posts…

Hi there! I am on Twitter – @Rosie_winn, I like to tweet about art events but you’ll also have to read my general waffle too, so apologies in advance! I’ve uploaded a new drawing onto my blog too

Did you do the originals from life? They’re very good. Great work.

I do yes. I have lots of breakdowns of movement that I draw out so that I can experiment with size and also the amount of figures in each. Some I’ll only do 6 figures for instance, others I’ll do up to 30. I’m going to have a go at drawing as many as possible – I’m hoping it’ll be something like 100 figures in a line across a wall. I’m building up the energy and concentration for this!

  • I am assuming these are done from life? Vibrant, strong, loose – well done!

PS A palimpsest is a document which, written on expensive vellum or papyrus, has been scratched out and then written over. My old Latin teacher used to laugh at my messy work and call that a palimpsest!

Some of the drawing are yes, some are just from my head! It could be my favourite new word, reminds me of when my dad (also an artist) used to tell me off for always erasing pencil lines on drawings and it’d leave a murk grey cloud of rubbed out lines
